SHRM Praises Repeal of Blacklisting Rule
SHRM leaders have commended President
Donald Trump’s repeal of the so-called
blacklisting rule that would require federal
contractors to disclose labor violations.
The rule, which was contained in an
executive order issued by former President Barack Obama, would have required
contractors and subcontractors that
receive more than $500,000 in federal
contracts to report to government agencies any violations of 14 separate federal
labor laws and their state law equivalents
for the past three years.
SHRM opposed the executive order
and regulations that would have implemented it because they placed unnecessary burdens on employers and were
punitive in nature.
“The federal government already has
systems in place to ensure that employers
who disregard federal laws are prevented
from winning contracts. These regulations,
however, would have unfairly denied many
employers the opportunity to compete for
federal contracts,” according to the statement issued by SHRM leaders in March.
More than 850 HR and IT professionals gathered in Hyderabad, India, in April for SHRM India Tech ’ 17, the
biggest HR technology conference in the region. The attendees represented more than 400 organizations
across India and more than 70 speakers from around the world.
